     Born in 1755 in Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA. Hon. William Dummer Powell was the son of John Powell and Jane Grant. Hon. William Dummer Powell was educated in 1767 in Tunbridge Wells, KEN, ENG.
     William married Anne Murray in October 1775. Hon. William Dummer Powell was The first professionally trained lawyer appointed a judge in what is now Ontario, Powell was born in Boston and educated abroad. He opened a legal practice in Montreal in 1779 and quickly gained a reputation as a brilliant advocate, able to conduct cases in French and English. Powell was appointed sole presiding judge of the Court of Common Pleas here in the District of Hesse in 1789. When the district courts were abolished five years later, he was instrumental in establishing the provinces Court of King's Bench. Steadfast in his adherence to the principals of English common law, Powell resisted political pressure throughout his career. In 1816 he was appointed Chief Justice of Upper Canada. in 1779. He was Called to the English Bar in 1784. He was Lord Dorchester appointed him as the first judge of the Court of Common Pleas for the District of Hesse and a member of the Land Board between 1784 and 1789 in Detroit. He was Appointed puisne judge of the Court of King's Bench of Upper Canada and moved to the Niagara area in 1794. He was residing in 1798 in York, TOR, CAN. He was Appointed to the Executive Council in 1808. He was Named speaker of the Legislative Council and elevated to the position of Chief Justice of Upper Canada in 1816. William died in 1834 in York, TOR.

      "He was a pleasant, genial man of the old school, an active and argent Whig, and ferevent admirer of Henry Clay. He was twice (in 1845 and 1847) elected Mayor of Jersey City, on the second term receiving the unanimous support of both parties. He was a pure-minded, upright citizen, loved and respected by all -a great friend of the working man, who always spoke in the warmest terms of him. During the great Irish famine he took an active part in forwarding money and supplies to starving people, and receiving complimentary letters from father Matthew and the Archbishop of Tuam. On leaving business he was elected City Collector of Taxes, and afterwards appointed Deputy collector of customs of the Port of New York, resident in Jersey City -appointed by Abraham Lincoln, re-appointed under General Grant -which position he held until his death in 1875. He and his wife Eliza Holt, daughter of Charles Holt of New London, Conn., whom he married in the place."2 Born on Saturday, 28 October 1797 in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut, USA. Phineas Cook Dummer was the son of Capt. Stephen Dummer and Eunice Cook. Phineas Cook was christened on 1 April 1798 in New Haven, New Haven County, Connecticut.3
     Phineas married, at age 24, Eliza Dobbs Holt, aged 19 , daughter of Charles Holt, on Saturday, 21 September 1822. In 1824 in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey, USA Phineas and his brother George founded one of the earliest pressed Glass manufacturing plants in the US, it flourished for some thirty years.4 Phineas aged 44 Elected to serve as first officer of Provident Institute for Savings on 6 December 1841 in Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey. He was Mayor of <Hudson County, New Jersey> between 1844 and 1848 in Jersey City. Phineas died in 1875.4
